Fitness Myth: Ab Exercises Will Reduce Belly Fat


Performing crunches and other ab exercises will “tighten” the abdominal area but will not burn fat from your mid-section.  These moves serve to strengthen muscle, not decrease the size of a certain area.

Doing 200 bicep curls will not make the arm shrink.  Likewise, doing 200 abdominal will not make your waist smaller.  You cannot spot reduce any part of the body.  You can however, tighten and strengthen the area with ab/core work which is a vital part of your health and fitness.  To decrease the size of your “pooch” focus on a slight calorie deficit and resistance training to stoke your metabolism and torch overall body fat.
