Homemade Protein Bars

I’ll be right up front with you, I can’t stand cooking.  Luckily, my fiance is a great cook but there are still plenty of times where I am pressed into some kitchen action to help me meet my nutritional needs.  Over the years I have learned many tricks to help culinary-challenged people like myself create easy-to-make healthy meals and snacks.  Without question, Shakeology has become the easiest and healthiest of them all but this recipe for homemade protein bars is right up there too.

  • 2 Cups of Quick Oats
  • 2 Cups of Rolled Oats
  • 1/4 Skim Milk
  • 1/4 OJ
  • 1/2 Cup of Organic Apple Sauce
  • 3 Scoops of Whey Protein Powder (try different flavors)
  • 1/2 Cup of Egg Whites
  • 1/3 Cup of Honey

Mix ingredients in a 9X9 pan and bake at 400 degrees for 20 mintues.

Cut into 8 bars.

Nutritional breakdown per bar (approx.):  240 calories, 4 grams of fat, 37 carbs, 6 grams of sugar and 15 grams of protein

* For higher protein add another scoop of whey and another 1/4 cup of egg whites

Please note:  These bars are not meant as a substitute for the P90X Performance Bars as they have very few simple carbs.  These bars are designed more as a mid-day snack or a supplement to a meal.
